The current trend is to replace all the fluorescent lights with that of the LED Tube Lights. This may be because of several reasons. The LED tube lights are used to an extensive degree because of the promising features that accompany them.

The LED tube lights cannot be fixed in an already existing fluorescent light fixture. This is because their tubes have internal ballasts. The tubes are usually 18 Watt and give out 820 LM of light. The minimum wattage is 10, while the maximum is 19.

The T8 LED tube lighting fixture has T8 LED Bulbs. The "T" refers to "tubular." This is used to describe the bulb's shape. Thus, the bulbs are available in T5, T8, and T12 sizes. All the bulbs used in LED Tube Lights are tubular. The number, which in this case is "8", refers to the value of the diameter.

The value is 8/8 inches. Therefore, T8 is a tubular bulb that has a diameter of 1 inch (8/8). Similarly, taking the example of T5, the diameter would be 5/8 = 0.625 inches.

Composition of LED Tube Lights

Each tube of an LED tube light has three rows of LED. Each row comprises 96 LEDs; this accounts for a total of 288 LEDs in each tube light. The center row of the LEDs is generally yellowish-white in color because they are warmer than the other two rows. The end caps of the LED tube receive the ac power. This way, they then transfer it to the internal power supply of the tube.

The back of the light is aluminum and has a thin, rounded cover; this is in contact with the LED PCB at the edges. Therefore, there is no heat sinking. The pc board does not have a metal core of its own. The PC board is designed in such a way that it looks like a garden variety fiberglass PCB. In this system, there is not much heat sinking either.

The power supply may be referred to as the guts of the LED tube lights. The three-terminal power regulator has several electrolytic capacitors. There are two PC boards. These are adjusted or put together to make a single 4-ft long tube light. The LEDs inside the tube are arranged in a matrix.

These matrixes comprise 18 parallel strings, and each string has 16 LEDs arranged in a series. There is an approximate drop of 3.2V in LED. Therefore, the total array drop can be 51V. The tube lifespan is 50,000 hours because of the specs of the light. It is important to note that this is the general makeup of the LED Tube Lights, but it may vary.

Advantages of LED Tube Lights

There are some significant advantages that the LED Tube Lights have over fluorescent lights. The main advantages are as follows:-

  • Unlike fluorescent tube lights, the LED tube lights do not contain mercury.
  • The lifetime or the durability of the LED Tube Lights is much longer and typically 50,000 hours.
  • The energy savings are up to 30-50%, and the efficiency is much higher.

Types of LED Tube Lights

When taking into consideration the T8 LED Tube Lights, there are three main types to choose from. These are:-
  • Type A LED Tube – The Type A LED Tube Lights are the plug-and-play kind and are compatible with ballast. However, in their case, the production cost and the maintenance cost are higher than the other types. The only area where you may have a problem is in the compatibility with the ballast. The ballasts may require a lot of continuous maintenance and then eventually replacement. It is ideal for consumers who do not prefer a lot of wiring work and installing lighting because they may incur high labor costs.
  • Type B LED Tube – The Type B LED Tube Lights can directly be installed in the fixtures of the T8 fluorescent lights. However, you need to remove the ballast before installing these. The Type B Tubes are available as single-ended power as well as double-ended power LED tubes. The single-ended power LEDs are cheaper, but they need a change in the wiring system. On the other hand, if you have removed the ballast, you can use the double-ended power tubes in the fluorescent light fixtures. It is ideal for consumers who can resort to the rewiring option and prefer lower maintenance costs and higher efficiency.
  • Type C LED Tube – The Type C LED Tube Lights are the ones that have an external drive with them. This allows the installation process to be more flexible. However, the Type C LED Tubes are the most expensive out of the three mentioned types. It must be noted that these are lesser used and uncommon ones out of the types of LED Tube Lights. There is a separate external drive with this type because, unlike the Type B tubes, these do not the LED driver integrated into the tube. This external driver helps connect the LED tubes to the main electric panels. It is ideal for consumers that prefer low maintenance costs. This is because you need not replace the entire LED tube when you are replacing the external driver. It is also ideal for people who want more LED options. These options are like IoT connectivity and 0-10V dimming.

Lepro LED Tube Lights

T8 LED Tube Lighting fixture is available on Lepro. These are available in Daylight White color, and the brightness ranges between 2000-2999 LM. Lepro offers all three types (Type A, Type B, and Type C) of the LED Tube Lights mentioned above to cater to your different needs. The LED Tube Lights can help you save on electricity bills, and they have a very low maintenance cost. These are environment-friendly and LED retrofits to have minimum product cost or are even free because of the rebates.
